Officer Chris Farrar was an 18-year veteran with the Chandler Police Department. Due to the stressors and trauma, he faced on the job, Chris went through dark times and became suicidal. Officer Farrar was referred to Under the Shield, received the help he needed, and recovered. Chris became a big proponent of Under the Shield, advocating and supporting his fellow officers. He also used his experiences to relate to and help citizens who were in crisis. Chris’ final assignment was with the K9 unit, and he was Benzo’s handler.
On the night of April 29, 2021, Officer Farrar was struck and killed by a violent felon in a stolen vehicle at the San Tan Ford in Gilbert. He succumbed to his injuries and his end of watch was April 30, 2021. Chris died doing what he loved and was the most decorated officer in the history of the Chandler Police Department.
Chris was a dedicated father to his 3 children Tessa, Connor and Riley. He was particularly involved in coaching their softball teams. Chris was blessed with his Granddaughter Leilani, in 2016 and she was his pride and joy.
Chris impacted many lives, was everyone’s “best friend”, and will forever be a part of Under the Shield.
Chris’ parents Bill and Linda, his children, family members, and Under the Shield would like to thank the various agencies, our sponsors, and everyone attending for their support.
